Yoga at the office
Yoga is in fashion, and more and more companies see this discipline as a
way to increase their productivity. According to data from the General
Council of Psychology in Spain (COP), its continued use allows companies
to increase their productivity by more than 15%, helping to facilitate a
work environment in which stress is reduced by increasing concentration
during business hours. Likewise, COP has confirmed that more than half
of the companies that have introduced yoga in their working day have
seen their performance and efficiency improve.
"The application of yoga to the business environment began in the United
States years ago and now it is beginning to be introduced in Spain due
to its properties and benefits" say sources from Deusto Salud, one of
the training centers with expertise on this topic. "Little by little,
yoga has ceased to be seen as an activity of body postures, but instead
and activity that brings benefits that can be perfectly applied to the
business environment."
In the workplace, stress reduces motivation and job satisfaction, causes
poor decision making, makes communication difficult, encourages more
pessimistic attitudes, and increases work absenteeism. In short, it
damages the health of the worker and this affects the company, since it
ends up affecting their productivity.
Many companies are committed to the health of their employees. We are at
a stage where the most advanced companies are committed to a healthy
company model and consider that their workers are the most important
asset of organizations, so they contribute to improving their health.
Healthy companies invest in healthy workers. Or perhaps we could say
that healthy workers bring health to the company. Quid pro quo.
Sport has always been and will be the great ally in this field. Everyone
knows the benefits that regular exercise brings to people, both
physically and mentally. That is why more and more companies organize
activities that contribute to improving the health of their employees in
a comfortable way that is compatible with their working day, especially
activities related to exercise. A few years ago, the sessions that were
taught within companies on mindfulness, emotional intelligence and
relaxation techniques, as well as courses to quit smoking became famous.
And now a "new" trend is added: yoga in the workplace, a practice that
not only benefits the workers, but also the company, indirectly.
Benefits of practicing yoga in the workplace:
At the physical level:
- Improves your fitness and prevents illness and injury.
- Promotes the correct alignment of the spine, tones muscles and prevents joint injuries, contractures, headaches and back pain.
- Provides benefits to the cardiovascular, nervous, lymphatic, and immune systems and promotes glandular balance, reducing and preventing diseases.
- Reduces health costs: by improving physical and mental health, costs related to absenteeism due to health problems are reduced.
At the intellectual level:
- Provides benefits to the cardiovascular, nervous, lymphatic, and immune systems and promotes glandular balance, reducing and preventing diseases.
- Improves concentration: you learn how to empty your mind, increasing attention and memory capacity
- Facilitates relaxation and provides energy : this causes time to be optimized in
- processes and work can be approached with positivism.
At the emotional level:
- Eliminates stress: reduces nervousness and insomnia, improves respiratory capacity and quality, so that stress is prevented or helps to manage it better.
- Increases values and sense of responsibility.
- Improves self-control management: by being more relaxed, communication is more assertive and less aggressive, and problems or challenges are faced from a different perspective.
Work environment and relationships:
- Generates a better work environment: more harmonious and motivating, so that employees work more relaxed.
- Improves communication between employees: helps to strengthen ties and improve relationships between workers and even with bosses.
- Increases performance and efficiency, improves decision making, stimulates creativity, increases productivity and reduces absenteeism.
We can conclude that with the practice of yoga, people improve physically, intellectually and emotionally, thus increasing their security and personal satisfaction, and this brings benefits to the company, making its employees more effective.
